Charger keeps saying unavailable and Tesla dashboard says charging failed

Sometimes the Tesla adapters can be touchy (both Tesla OEM and third-party). It can be tricky to get different standards to communicate. Here are some steps that may help.

1. Make sure you have the most recent adapter firmware. You may be able to update remotely or you may need to visit a Tesla location. Even if the firmware is not the most recent, you may be able to succeed by following the rest of the steps.

2. Try a different connection sequence ... if you have been doing charger to adapter, then adapter to car, then instead try adapter to car, then adapter to charger. Sounds odd, but it does help in some cases.

3. Be sure to click on the white rectangle at the bottom of the bottom screen before and after you plug in. This is the "button" on the screen with a car that says "click here after plugging in if needed."

4. If none of this helps, give us a call and we can try additional things from our end.
